Asian Pacific Surgical Video Contest 2019

If you have a surgical video of international interest under 10minutes long, submit it by 15 th August 2019.

General Information

  • Videos must be submitted online. No changes can be made after the submission deadline.
  • Videos that highlight unusual or challenging cases and those demonstrating novel techniques in the field of gastrointestinal surgery will be selected.
  • We are looking for quality and depth of content, level of commentary, originality, novelty and educational value.
  • Selection of videos is done by blinded, peer-review process.
  • Best 5 videos will be selected for the contest.

Video File Requirements

  • Length of the video – not more than 10 minutes.
  • Audio narration in English must be included in the production for review purposes (during presentation, the presenting author will be expected to provide narration, as the background audio will not be played).
  • Acceptable video formats - .mov, .mpg, and .mp4 (e.g., QuickTime, Real Player, Microsoft Windows Media Player, VLC media Player).
  • File size may not exceed 500 MB. Recommended pixels: 1920 × 1080 (square pixel ratio) or 1280 × 720 (square pixel ratio), both for 16:9 aspect ratio
  • Bit Rate: 5 Mbps (for 720) or 10 Mbps (for 1080). Videos should not use special codecs (coders/decoders).

Video Production Requirements

  • Video abstracts will not be considered if they have been previously submitted to international meetings or published in any journal.
  • Videos should not contain any patient identification information, physician names, medical record numbers, etc.
  • No video may contain any advertising, corporate logo, trade name, or product-group message of an ACCME-defined commercial interest.
  • Do not include any copyrighted information (images, videos, photos, etc.) without written consent from the original source of the copyrighted work.
  • Authors retain the copyright of the video but should not have already transferred it to a peer-reviewed material publication like a surgical technique manuscript.
  • If the video has been previously published in an open-access environment, that resource should be mentioned during submission.

Oral Presentation at the Asian Pacific Surgical video contest

  • Presenting authors MUST register for the APDW 2019 by 31st July 2019.
  • Make a PPT of 5 slides containing the abstract which also includes the outline of video content and few learning objectives.
  • Selected video will be communicated to the author by 15th September 2019
  • Selected videos must be narrated by an author who speaks and understands English.
  • Time limit – 5 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for Q and A by judges.
  • Marks will be given for indication of the procedure, presentation skills, quality of video, how unusual or challenging the procedure is, etc.
  • Abstract submission last date – 15th August 2019
  • Winners will be rewarded during the conference.

Abstract Structure & Character Limit

  1. The title should be written in initial capital/ lower case form, not all capital within 40 words.
  2. Author and co-authors’ name should be surname-last format, initial capital/ lower case, not all capitals.
  3. Only up to 5 authors including a presenting author will be listed in each abstract.
  4. Author and co-authors’ affiliation should contain institution, city and country.
  5. Make an abstract containing 5 slides
  6. The abstract text should include: Introduction, brief clinical scenario, outline of the video content and few learning objectives.

Special Note

  • Disclosures / conflict of interest- should be revealed by the submitting author.
  • Refusal to disclose relevant financial relationships for any author(s) will result in disqualification of the author(s) from participation in this activity.
  • The presenting author may not be an employee of a commercial interest.
  • Commercial interest - any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services, consumed by, or used on, patients.
  • The rules/instructions might change in rare instances. Same will be updated on the website.
